Global TeleVentures, Inc to determine how to extend access to high-speed Internet in Rural Florida

Today, the North Florida Business Development Council, Inc., d.b.a. Opportunity Florida, the economic development arm of the eight Counties in NW Florida that are considered rural areas of critical economic concern (RACEC) and therefore receive special economic assistance from the State of Florida appointed Global TeleVentures, Inc to undertake a detailed economic evaluation to measure the contribution always on high-speed Internet access will have on the communities covered by the NW Florida RACEC and that the provision of those services can be successfully achieved on a purely commercial basis by a wireless or wireless hybrid Internet Service Provider (WISP).

Powerline Telco awarded contract to analyze the role Broadband over Powerline could play in rural America

Release Date: February 1st, 2005

Today, the cooperative research network, the research arm of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association and the National Rural Telephone Cooperatives Association appointed Powerline Telco a wholly owned subsidiary of Global TeleVentures, Inc to conduct the projects which will test the reliability, latency, Internet data rates and network performance over long distances in low-population areas through distribution lines that are typical in electric distribution cooperatives.

Steve Collier, vice president, Emerging Technologies at NRTC, said, “The purpose of the projects is to provide NRTC and CRN members real data to enable them to evaluate to what extent BPL might be able to provide the necessary bandwidth and network performance to extend broadband Internet service into their service areas.” 

“We’re looking for ‘just the facts’ about BPL performance,” said CRN’s Martin Gordon, who manages telecommunications projects for CRN.
